One of the questions I’m asked most frequently by life coaching skeptics is some version of “But don’t you think there’s a difference between someone born into privilege and someone born into poverty?”

Although the question is full of questionable assumptions inandof itself, in short, my answer is no.

Because your circumstances affect your planning. They don’t change your potential.

Only YOU can do that.

By buying into “your lot in life”
By believing that you are somehow different.
By not doing the work to take advantage of the opportunities that come.

This in no way implies people’s experiences are the same, equal, or even fair.

But it does insist that we are all inherently capable of the same greatness and level of personal achievement we each desire.

Unfortunately the easier option is to blame the world around us for the life that we’re choosing to live. Victim based thinking doesn’t discriminate by age, race, gender, nationality or socioeconomic status.

As you start a new week, be open to signs of where you’ve traded your power for an easier excuse. Embracing your option to change is the path to true freedom.
