to-do

Each morning when I wake up, I marvel at the sunrise then almost immediately feel overwhelmed by everything I want to do:

– go for a run
– meditate
– practice yoga
– write to you
– finish projects
– clean the house
– start on the next project

The list goes on and on until I feel so confused, instead of getting up and doing any of the things that excite me, I pull the covers over my head and go back to sleep.

Not the best recipe for feeling in control and on top of my day.

But what if there were a different metric to help you plan your day?

Right now most of us prioritize the items on our to-do list that involve other people. We assume there is limited time and everything has to be done now.

So we put what people might notice and care about on top. Then we plan to use the scraps of our time and energy for ourselves.

Except that time seems to get filled with obligations too…

People who feed their souls and live their calling do life a little differently – they put their goals first.

They know that what needs to get done will always get done. You’ll get up early or stay up late if there’s a true deadline.

But your best energy – your most excited and focused time – deserves to be on your dreams.

“I hear ya, Alexis, but I have a job and family. How do you suggest I put me first?”

By choosing how you feel.

Even with your best intentions, you might still have places you need to be and things you need to do.

But you can always determine how you feel while you accomplish the daily activities that make up your life.

  • If you’ve been craving feeling free, spend 1 minute this morning imagining how good it will feel to be free.
  • If you’ve been craving feeling calm and in control, breathe into your belly, soften your jaw, and use your powerful mind to create the feelings of calm right now.

Then check in with your priorities and move through your day from that space.

It’s easy – even tempting – to let the busyness of life boss you around. But you are the only one who can determine how you feel.

Be free. Be brave. Be YOU!

Love,
Alexis
